Half-Birthday

My sweet Jett turned 6 months old on March 13th! He has been such a great baby and is such a sweetheart. Really. He’s my Buddy Roo! Every working day I find myself overly eager to rush home and see precious Sunny Buns for those few hours before he finally zonks out for the night. Daycare days sure wear him out...and the other days he’s with dad sure wear dad out.

Naturally, being alive half a year means a lot of growth and development that I just have to share!

Food Adventures:
Jett has been eating solids for the past few weeks, and it's been going great! He is a good little eater, and it’s been a lot less messy than I expected. Oh, and he is so adorbs in his high chair! He definitely enjoys the fruity foods like applesauce or peaches and is least amused by carrots. In fact, we've even had him try a pickle and even a lemon thinking those would give us a great reaction, but to our surprise, no sour face was pulled (a clear sign he IS my child!)...his biggest "whoa!" food moment was to carrots and refried beans I had him taste when we were at a Mexican restaurant. Other foods he's had so far are pears, sweet potatoes, strawberry banana mix, green beans, avocados, squash, apple cherry mix, sweet corn, peas, and a smidgen taste of Sprite and Coke (haha). He's also been able to "chew" on real bananas and oranges thanks to a food pouch holder that was suggested to me. It basically looks like a RingPop sucker to me (remember those?!) but the sucker part is a mesh pouch that you can stick foods in for baby to gum on. That way they can "eat" things without the risk of choking on pieces of food. I refer to them as his “treats” even though a more proper name would be “sticky, slobbery mess creators that mom has to push aside her germaphobia to clean after”.

Squiggle Worm:
Jett is on the move! No, not crawling…just being a roly-poly all over anything and everything. Because he no longer stays on his playmat we’ve had to “upgrade” his mat by adding a huge queen-size blanket underneath it so when he ventures off to the deep ends of the earth he stays on the blanket and doesn’t end up on the carpet…because it’s gross. Needless to say, this oversize-playmat has taken over 90% of our living room…the other 10% goes to his swing, Bumbo, toys, diaper bag, burp rags, feeding materials, carseat, etc.  Not only is Jetty Jettson on the move in the living room, he also has quite the adventures in his crib. Every morning is a new surprise of what position he’ll be in. When we put him to bed or nap time, he’s in the middle of his crib asleep on his tummy, but when I’ve gone back in his room, I’ve found him scrunched up in the corner rolled onto his back with his feet up in the air and his little bum suffocating his musical Sleep Sheep attached in the corner. Of course, he was one happy camper babbling away thinking nothing was odd about this scenario. Another time he had pulled his covers over him and had disappeared under a heap of fluff even though usually he’s found with all of his covers pushed off of him sleeping curled up in a ball with his bum in the air. It’s precious. Sigh...it’ll be interesting to see what havoc comes from crawling when he figures that out.

Besides those big updates, others are:
  • Jett is currently wearing size 6-9 months clothes. At his last check-up, he weighed 17.6 lbs. (50%) and was 27.1” in height (68%) with an average head size of 63%.
  • He has been building up his immune system by fighting off a few colds here and there since January came along as well as a brief case of pink eye that lasted a day or two and a strange week of a sensitive tummy where he threw up for about a week. Regardless, he was never cranky and was still a happy baby…really tricks mom and dad’s emotions when trying to judge how serious his ailment may be, and meanwhile, mom’s a sobbing mess over him being sick. To give me peace of mind, he ended up making a trip to the doctor...twice.
  • Instead of staying up until 10 or 11 p.m. with mom and dad before bed, he poops out now usually by 8 p.m. but still manages to sleep through the whole night until 6 or 7 a.m. It’s been heavenly! He only wakes up in the middle of the night a couple of times a week but is always good to go straight back to sleep.
  • We’ve occasionally been doing story time before bed to get in a calm mood, and Jett gets very focused on trying to hold the little cardboard book in my hands. I’m surprised at how well he manages to turn the pages. That's his favorite part.
  • When he wakes up in the morning or from naps, he is usually just babbling away instead of crying. My most FAVORITE thing is watching his precious face when he finally sees me come into his room. He gets the biggest smile and then buries his face in his blankets from getting so sheepish and excited. Every so often, a squeal of joy comes out too...I probably do one too.
  • He is very into his toes and has been caught eating them several times...this has nothing to do with me bending him in half and encouraging him to “get those toesies!”
  • He can sit up by himself now for longer periods of time and sits up straighter instead of just leaning forward over his tummy. The Easter Bunny will also be on the lookout for a new stationary activity toy he can play with sitting up.
  • He is getting more bouncy in his doorway bouncer we have for him. For the past couple months, he’s just been lazily dangling in it while sucking on the sides but now that he has a good, stronger standing position, he’ll stand up and down in it which causes some bouncing to go on. That entertains him!
  • Jett is in the process of attempting a sippy cup. On the first try, he didn’t seem to care for the handles on the sides of the cup and got frustrated after a short bit, so back we went to a bottle! I'll be informing the Easter Bunny to find a better sippy cup for him to get used to.
  • We have a bit of a narcissist because he LOVES to watch videos on my phone of himself laughing. He just stares at my phone with the biggest, drooling grin and giggles every so often. Then of course he tries to grab for my phone and anxiously wants to play with it.
  • He's hit his anxiety stage where if he can't get to a toy or can't figure out how to move where he wants to go or just gets frustrated for no reason at any moment in time, he starts panicking by whining and squealing. I'm sure this is just the beginning of things to come.
  • And last but not least...his first two teeth have broken through!!! We have discovered two pearly whites trying to make their debut on the bottom row. Yes, I got emotional over seeing them. He's growing up!

♥ Love my sweet baby boy! ♥

They See Me Rollin'

Big milestone over the weekend!! Jett can officially roll over! He had already been rolling from his tummy on to his back for a few weeks now just because he'd be so far pushed up on his hands that when ever he'd look to one of the sides, he'd start to lean and then eventually fall over onto his back. But going back to his tummy has been a struggle! He'll couldn't figure out how to move his arm out of the way to make the full transition, but by golly, he's got it now! I wasn't expecting him to roll so quick in this video but off he goes right away! His little grunting is so cute and then after the roll sounds like a slight out-of-breath moment from working so hard...ignore my baby voice when praising his achievement.

Hooray for my Jetty Jettson!

311 Day 2014

*Sigh*...wish I was in New Orleans celebrating with the 311 Nation!!! Did I stay up until 1 a.m. reading every Tweet from fellow Excitable Ones in attendance so I could pretend to be there rocking out? Yes'um. And this years' event sounded like a treat, as expected. 311 played 66 songs over 5 hours!! An orchestra was even included for some of it. Their new album Stereolithic was also released on 3/11 to coincide with the event, so of course they played some newbies. I was pretty bummed they chose not to have their big 311 Day event in Las Vegas again like the past 2 shows have been (obviously a much more convenient location for me!) but I'm happy they went back to their grassroots of NOLA. I would've LOVED to have been there...it is on my bucket list for one day when I'm rich and can afford airfare for once.
